Lidl to open Stafford Store on Nov. 30th

Lidl, the German grocery retailer, recently announced that it will open it’s Stafford store on November 30th, nearly one year after purchasing the site. Lidl purchased the 6.34 acre site, located at 1175 Warrenton Rd, for $2.6 million in November of 2016.  Construction started on the store this past spring.

The  store, which is located next to the Walmart and a new McDonalds (under construction) at the Stafford Lakes development, is the second store location built in the Fredericksburg Region, but the very first to open.

The first location built in the Fredericksburg Region is located in Spotsylvania County at the intersection of Route 3/Plank Rd and Gordon Rd. Although this store was completed late last year the company has yet to announce an open date for this location.

Lidl began opening its first U.S. stores in June, and of the 20 first stores opened 9 are located in Virginia. The company has continued to open new store since June, including a location in Culpeper, Virginia which open on July 13th.

To date, Lidl has opened a total of 38 stores in 5 states, including 12 in Virginia, 14 in North Carolina, 9 in South Carolina, and 1 store in both Georgia and Delaware. The Virginia stores have been predominately opened in the Richmond area as well as Newport News/Hampton Roads.
